I reached a milestone tonight, so here’s a wee blog post with the news from Leonie Mackville. I’ve been trying not to look too much at the progress of Snow Days because the early days of a book are always a bit fraught for me, with reviews and unpredictable sales. Given almost all of my sales are in ebook form, it varies A LOT depending on algorithms and whims and the foibles of the internet so I try not to read too much into the beginning of a book’s journey. It takes time for readers to even know the book is there, let alone decide to buy it.
My publisher was able to secure a rather last-minute promotion and the price was reduced a bit earlier than last time around, but we’ll see how it all goes! I only hope people are interested to read about the PGHM and a winter in the high mountains with the mystery of Luna’s mother’s time in Chamonix years before.
In the meantime, I did my own initial edit of book eight for Boldwood, with the working title a Spanish Detour and I am RIDICULOUSLY excited about this one. It’s due to come out in May 2024.
And tonight, I finished my first edit of an extra project that I’ll be working with my agent on to see what might happen with that. I hope it gets out to readers somehow, but for the moment I’m celebrating the the finished manuscript, the fully-formed characters who I adore and another book brought to life.
This was a slightly unusual writing process as I didn’t know what would happen with this manuscript (and still don’t). It’s a first person, dual POV sports romance with a couple of spicy scenes. There’s a hint of age gap, a fake relationship and an epistolary element…
I just adored both of the characters though. The main character is a sportsperson herself, recovering from injury and I loved how tough she was, how she held herself together and gradually grew brave enough to believe she could make a relationship work. And the love interest is one of my favourites, complete with bad jokes and a serious dose of pining for the main character. His POV was glorious to write (he’s funnier).
It’s an unknown what journey these two will go on to reach readers, but I’m proud of the manuscript and I love them!!
